Underrated Places to Elope in Wyoming: Unique Elopement Locations Off the Beaten Path

Want to elope in Wyoming without crowds or cliché mountain photos? In this post, I’m sharing some of the most underrated places to elope in Wyoming—from alpine lakes and mountain towns to secluded wild spots. Whether you’re dreaming of a romantic micro-wedding or a canyon vow exchange with no one around for miles, these locations are everything but ordinary.

Why Choose a Unique Elopement Location in Wyoming

If you’re eloping to get away from tradition, why get married in the same place as fifty other couples that day? While Jackson and the Tetons are stunning, they’re also busy and regulated. But Wyoming? She’s vast. Wild. Full of overlooked gems that feel like you’re the only people in the world.

There’s more to this state than mountains. (Though yes, we have those, too.) You just need the right gal to show you where to look—hi, that’s me.

Lakeside Locations for Your Unique Wyoming Elopement

Wyoming is home to some truly stunning lakes—many with romantic lodges, mountain views, and the kind of stillness you just can’t find in a national park. Whether you’re planning a weekend getaway or a cozy micro-wedding, these lakefront spots are perfect.

  • Fremont Lake (Pinedale, WY): A lodge right on the lake, mountain views, and options for dockside vows or a ceremony up the mountain. Perfect for a weekend with guests.

  • Half Moon Lake: Just beyond Fremont but way more secluded. Quiet, tucked away, and ultra-romantic.

  • Boysen State Park (Riverton, WY): Overlooks Wind River Canyon with wild, scenic beaches and a marina—ideal for a private ceremony, boating, or sunset swim.

  • Louis Lake (Lander, WY): Remote and rugged, with access to mountain adventure and nearby campsites or stay at the Louis Lake Lodge!

  • Lake Marie (Encampment, WY): No hike required—drive right up to it! Surrounded by beauty, with nearby ranch stays or Saratoga hot springs to unwind.

Unique Mountain Elopement Spots in Wyoming

Want those Wyoming peaks but without the Jackson price tag or crowds? Here’s where to look:

  • Tensleep, WY: A charming western town with mountain views, a historic little chapel, and adventure all around.

  • Saratoga, WY: Base of the mountains + natural hot springs. Stay in a unique Airbnb or one of the cozy inns.

  • Sheridan, WY: Mountain views for miles and SO many beautiful, photogenic cabins to host your day in style.

Urban Elopement Locations in Wyoming

Wyoming doesn’t do “big city” vibes, but our downtowns? They’re full of character. Think: western charm, courthouse romance, and even art murals.

Casper, WY: Murals, breweries, live music. End your day at a riverside Airbnb for a romantic finish, or stay in one of the edgier Airbnb options.

Lander, WY: Classic Wyoming main street charm. A great option for courthouse ceremonies, rugged portraits, or both—with mountain access just minutes away.

Wild + Remote Elopement Locations in Wyoming

Want to be the only two people for miles? We can make that happen. Some of the most breathtaking places I’ve taken couples to can only be reached with off-road vehicles—or hooves.

I’ve explored and scouted hundreds of backcountry locations throughout Wyoming, and I’ll take you there in one of my off-road vehicles. Picture this: canyon overlooks ten miles off the nearest highway, historic ghost towns, river crossings where you’re the only ones who’ve ever said “I do” there.

Permits, Seasons & Pro Tips for Eloping in Wyoming

  • Permits: Most of these spots don’t require permits (unlike GTNP or YNP), but I’ll handle the research for your exact location.
  • Best Time to Elope: Late spring through early fall. September is especially golden with fewer crowds. Winter can be STUNNING as long as your location choice is accessible. November & April you’ll risk the chance of no snow with nothing green yet– meaning, everything will be blah and brown.
  • Accessibility: Some of these require off-roading, while others are drive-up friendly. I’ll help you choose based on your adventure level.
  • Weather Tip: Even summer nights can dip cold—pack layers and bring cozy blankets.
  • Weekday Pro Tip: Choose a Tuesday or Wednesday for the ultimate private vibe.
